FAQ AT Dance Classes
What should I wear to a Rock
n Roll Class?
Clothing: As we teach in venues such as RSL's and clubs it is important that we respect each
individual venue's dress regulations. Generally, they will not allow patrons to
enter if they are wearing football jumpers/shorts, lycra bike pants, singlets, very short shorts,
stubbies, dirty or untidy work clothes.
We suggest to keep it casual/keep it comfortable.
Ladies, skirts, dress pants, jeans and gentleman, jeans or dress pants with
collared shirt or T-shirts.
Footwear: Again, we need to respect each individual
venue's dress regulations. Generally they will not allow patrons to enter if
they are wearing scuffs or rubber thongs.
We suggest that you wear shoes that will
slide/spin on a dance floor. You do not have to go out to buy special dance
shoes when you are first starting.
Please avoid wearing joggers as students have
found them difficult with the rubber and tread to spin with. Ladies,
court shoes or dress shoes should be fine. Gentleman, your standard office/wedding
party black/brown shoes will be fine.
Other Considerations: Deodorant and a hand towel.
Do I need to become a member
of the club or RSL?
Each club and RSL sets out their own Conditions of
Entry. Due to legislation patrons who reside in a 5km radius of the club or RSL
must become a member to utilise the facilities and services of each venue. Some
RSL's allow you to sign in as a temporary member if
you are a member of another RSL. Please check with reception at each venue.
We do encourage our students to become members of
their local clubs and RSL's as usually their are benefits such as discounts and member raffles.
Do I need to bring a partner
to Rock n Roll Classes?
Our classes are designed for individuals and couples.
So, you don't need a partner. We structure all our classes so that we have
people who regular rotate and people who do not rotate.
The only exception is when children are participating
and in this case they should be partnered with children. So, we encourage families/parents
to try and partner brothers with sisters or cousins or other friends or parents
partnered with their child(ren).
Do I need to book in advance
for Rock n Roll lessons?
You may purchase your single lessons or passes online
via our website or simply turn up on the night and pay at the door. We provide
a mobile EFTPOS facility that will allow you to use your debit and credit cards
(Mastercard and VISA) should you not carry cash.
Please arrive 15 - 20 mins prior to your class
starting to ensure that you give yourself time to register, stretch and warm up
before your lesson(s) begin.
Do I need to be fit to
attend Rock 'n' Roll dance classes?
Rock 'n' Roll dancing may be strenuous to some
people, so a reasonable level of fitness would be desirable, although, our
beginner class is structured for people who have no dance experience and is
generally practiced to slower music from 80 - 125 BPM.
Should you have any medical conditions it is always
best to seek the advise of a medical practitioner or
your local GP. Dancing should be fun and should not hurt or cause pain, so if
it does, then take a break or stop.
Can I have a private lesson
instead of attending classes?
Yes, private lessons are available for couples,
individuals or groups for various reasons including choreography, wedding
dances and other special occasions or for fun, fitness or extra learning.
Petar
and Amanda try and make themselves both available for each private, otherwise
Amanda is available for both leader and follower tuition.
We encourage our students to continue to attend
classes whilst they are receiving private lessons as this will improve their
dancing, enhance their knowledge and reinforce learning.
I have never danced before
and have two left feet, can I Rock 'n' Roll?
Yes, our beginner Rock n Roll course is structured
for people who have never danced before. Through the beginner Rock n Roll course
you learn the FUNdamentals, footwork, technique, get
time to practice and revise each week. We just ask that you relax, keep
smiling, have an open mind by trying what we show you, have fun and a laugh
when you vary your actions (make a mistake) .
Some of our beginners repeat the Beginner Rock n Roll
course 2 or 3 times and others continue with the beginner Rock n Roll course
whilst they participate in other classes such as the Rock n Roll intro-intermediate
class and the Rock n Roll intermediate/open classes.
How long does it take to
learn Rock 'n' Roll?
Anything you learn for the first time takes time. So
it is important to attend our Rock n Roll classes with a smile and an open
mind to try, try and try again.
We aim to have you Rock n Roll dancing your
basic on the first night and by week five enjoying a social dance with your
partner. Please give it a go and give it some time and please try not to make
up your mind about Rock 'n' Roll dancing on the first night as it is so much
more!
We try and foster an environment of fun, patience,
perseverance, practice and SMILES!!
The more time you give something like Rock 'n' Roll
dancing the more you will gain, the better you will get and the more friends
you will make!
